Sun’s Out

Oh, to get out early like this every day. Sun rising up like a twinkle in the eye of the universe. The whole trail to myself. Just me and the bird song and the occasional flop of a fish. I’m not by my nature a morning runner, so these scenes are rare, immeasurably special for me. I’m up early, but I usually need some time to warm into the day.

Then I have morning like this one. I make a move early. From inert to action. From thinking to doing. The sun stretches out across the sky and the morning seems impossibly long, like I can actually, this once, fit it all in. Time for writing and reflecting, savoring the coffee and oats, and get in a good hour+ long run before the steam is done rising up from the canal. I think: This is it. I’m running with the sun rise more often. This will be the morning that motivates me once and for all.

Old patterns are hard to break though, so those rare morning outings remain elevated on a higher plane.

#WriteAsRun Prompt No. 19: Under the sun.
In honor of the upcoming Summer Solstice, write an ode to runs in the sun. How does sunlight affect your mood and performance? How does the sun feel on your skin?
